New Habitat for SeaWorld Killer Whales

New Habitat for SeaWorld Killer Whales after Blackfish BacklashSeaWorld, in an effort to recover their company from plummeting financially, released new pictures on their plans to upgrade the orca whales tank after “Blackfish” caused a huge backlash.

Some say the people who avoid SeaWorld because of the Blackfish movie will never return. They believe overall attendance will not increase just because these new habitats are created.

SeaWorld has done its best to show the public they are giving their killer whales the best treatment money can buy, but critics are skeptical.

The expansion, nicknamed the “Blue World Project,” will double the size of the current killer whale habitat. The plans are to build a tank 350 feet long and 50 feet deep. The new killer whale tank will be filled with a reported 10 million gallons of water and span 1.5 acres in surface area.

Though SeaWorld did not disclose the cost of this new killer whale habitat, an estimate from the The Wall Street Journal valued it at several hundred million dollars.

Vice president Christopher Dold, SeaWorld’s of Veterinary Services, said:

“It’s going to be incredible, it’s going to be a very, very exciting experience both for the whales but also for us and all the
folks who work with these animals.”
