Darren Wilson has been Identified as the Officer who shot Mike Brown

Officer who killed Mike Brown identified 6 Year Veteran Darren Wilson

Darren Wilson Identified as the officer who killed Mike Brown – After 6 days of silence the police have finally released the name of Darren Wilson, the police officer who shot and killed unarmed, 18 year old Mike Brown.

The police believe that Brown was involved in a convenience store robbery, but the Brown family lawyer, Benjamin L. Crump, isn’t satisfied with that answer. According to him the police are trying to justify the ‘execution-style’ murder. Mr. Crump noted:

“The police are playing games here and the parents are beyond incensed with the way that the police are handling the distribution of information. The police are not being transparent and they are strategically trying to justify this execution-style murder.”

Police released surveillance video footage of Mike Brown at a convenience store shortly before the shooting. They claim brown was stealing a pack of swisher sweets cigars when the clerk confronted him. Brown allegedly pushed the store clerk and proceeded to leave the store.

Darren Wilson Mike Brown Shooting

The shooting of Mike Brown sparked protests in Ferguson, Missouri, that lasted for 5-6 days.

Initially St. Louis Police Chief Jackson didn’t want to release the name of the officer. This incited civil rights groups to force it’s release in court.

When releasing the name Chief Jackson said:

“A lot of the stakeholders had a big meeting conversation yesterday, and then yesterday evening, and we made the determination that today is the day. Nothing specific went into that decision, but we feel that there’s a certain calm. There’s a huge outcry from the community.”

When the St. Louis County Police Department responded to the first protests, they were criticized for using armored vehicles, tear gas, rubber bullets, and other riot gear. This criticism lead to the Missouri Highway Patrol taking over, using less intimidating and more peaceful means to control the protest.
