Earthquake in Northern California 6.0, 120 Injured, 6 Critical – At least 120 people were injured, 6 critically, in Napa, California after a 6.0 earthquake rocked Northern California just before 3:30 a.m. Many of the injured are being treated at the Queen of the Valley Hospital.
One of the 6 in critical condition, a child, was was hurt when a fireplace collapsed on him. He was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center. Reports state that most injuries are not life threatening.
This 6.0 earthquake has been the strongest in the Bay Area since 1989 when a 6.9 earthquake struck Loma Prieta.
The Nor Cal earthquake has caused four homes and a mobile-home park to catch fire. Many historic buildings, 40 water mains, and 50 gas lines have been damaged.
The United States Geological Survey reports that the quake struck four miles northwest of American Canyon and 6 miles southeast of Napa.
It appears that there has also been 3 aftershocks of the quake near Napa, including two 2.5s and a 3.6.
