Stephen Collins, the well-known actor from ABC’s 7th Heaven, has been all over the news lately for confessing to acts of child molestation that were recorded without his knowledge in a therapy session with his wife Faye Grant.

Grant noted in a statement to the press that she didn’t have anything to do with the tape being released publicly:

“I woke up today to learn that an extremely private recording I handed over to the authorities in 2012 per their request in connection with a criminal investigation was recently disseminated to the press. I had no involvement whatsoever with the release of the tape to the media.”

Collins was in a divorce with Grant when the tape was recorded back in 2012. It is apparently legal in California to record conversations for evidence in court cases when it involves a felony crime.

The audio recording, which was obtained by TMZ, contained disturbing confessions by the actor including his having molested three or more girls around the age of 12, exposing himself to young girls, and more.

New York and Los Angeles police are currently investigating the matter.

Earlier today Collins’ San Fernando house was swarmed by the LAPD when one of the the media personnel staking out at his home alleged they heard a shot fired. Collins was not home at the time and was apparently in contact the entire night.

Donna D’Errico, an actress and one of Collins’ neighbors, thought Collins had shot himself and tweeted the following photo and subsequent comments about the incident:
