ISIS Claims They Beheaded US Journalist James Foley and threaten to Kill Steven Sotloff
ISIS Claims They Beheaded US Journalist James Foley – The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham has released a video on YouTube claiming they have beheaded US Journalist James Foley.
Foley, a 40 year old freelance journalist working for the GlobalPost and Agence France-Presseat the time, went missing in Syria almost 2 years ago. He was kidnapped on November 22, 2012.
Steven Sotloff, a reporter who disappeared in July 2013, also appeared in the video at the end.
Foley’s Twitter account (created by his family) posted on Wednesday:
We know that many of you are looking for confirmation or answers. Please be patient until we all have more… http://t.co/3iLuMqpurG— Find James Foley (@findjamesfoley) August 19, 2014
The authenticity of the beheading video has not yet been verified. YouTube has since taken down the 5 minute video which was uploaded by the al-Furqan Media Foundation.
The James Foley Beheading Video was titled “A Message to America,” and opened with a video clip of President Barrack Obama authorizing the U.S. Airstrikes in Iraq. It then showed Foley in an orange jumpsuit knelt down as a Guantanamo Bay Prison reference.
The ISIS militant in the video states that the beheading is payback for the US airstrikes ordered by President Obama against ISIS in Iraq.
In the video James Foley says:
“I call on my friends, family and loved ones to rise up against my real killers – the U.S. government — for what will happen to me is only a result of their complacent criminality,”
At the end of the video the ISIS militant threatens to kill Steven Sotloff saying ” “The life of this American citizen, Obama, depends on your next decision.”
If authentic, this video would mark the first time ISIS has executed an American publicly.
