The details are a bit unclear so far. This morning St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar reported that at roughly 12:00pm a Ferguson police officer had a run in with two individuals. One or both of the individuals assalted the officer by pushing him back inside his vehicle. A struggle ensued and the officers gun fired a shot. Mike Brown fled, and was fired at by the officer multiple times, wounding Brown fatally.
Mike Brown was a 2014 graduate of Normandy High School. He would have begun taking classes at Vatterott College on Monday.
It was reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that 19 year old Piaget Crenshaw witnessed the officer attempting to subdue Brown and get him into the patrol car. As he ran away with his arms in the air he was shot many times by the officer (Autopsy confirms Mike Brown was shot in the front of the body). Crenshaw cooperated with officers and turned over photos she had taken of the crime scene.
The second person involved in the in has not been named yet. The police officer involved was a six year veteran of the police force and has since been placed on administrative leave.
Within minutes of the shooting Mike Brown Protests began, and they have advanced into Sunday. Groups of police officers from surrounding communities were called into the protest scene on Saturday as the crowd started becoming increasingly hostile. Chants of “We are Michael Brown” and profanities could be heard loud and clear by the officers.
The Furguson, MO police station had a gathering of 200 people in front of it today. Many of the demonstrators were carrying homemade signs that read “Stop Renegade Police” and “Stop Killing our Kids”.
